Assistant Director of Traditional Upward Bound/TRiO Grant

This is a 100% grant-funded program, contingent upon funding approval that is performance-based.

Overview

The Cincinnati State Technical & Community College TRiO Upward Bound (TUB) program is funded by a grant made by the United States Department of Education to the College and is one of three TriO programs managed by the College. The Cincinnati State TUB program serves Mt. Healthy High School students who are first generation college students (neither parent has a bachelor's degree), and low income.

Cincinnati State is looking for a full-time Assistant Director to oversee the day-to-day programming and operations, in accordance with the U. S. Department of Education grant performance requirements. The primary goal is to serve and support first-generation/low income high school participants in successfully completing high school and enrolling in post-secondary education. The Assistant Director will spend much of his or her time at Mt. Healthy High School working closely with Mt. Healthy High School students, faculty and staff to recruit TUB program participants, develop training and supportive services for those participants, and assist participants and their families in understanding and pursuing post-secondary education options. The position also works closely with Cincinnati State personnel to ensure grant accountability and administration, as well as to inform college stakeholders about TRiO programs.

This position is fully funded by a U.S. Department of Education TRiO grant as of September 1, 2017, and as such, is contingent upon annual renewals by the U.S. Department of Education based on grant performance through August 31, 2022. The 2018-19 fiscal year's funding has been approved.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervision and evaluation of Traditional Upward Bound Staff to include an Academic Specialist and Tutors.
  • Accountable for the recruitment of the required number of eligible participants each academic year from Mt. Healthy schools serving grades 9-12.
  • Responsible for maintaining, reviewing participant files to certify student eligibility consistent with U.S. Department of Education and grant requirements.
  • Maintenance of accurate program records, including oversight of data collection and input into Blumen database, and safeguarding personal information.
  • Supervise and assist in providing academic enrichment, cultural, and other program activities that ensure the retention of participants through high school and into college.
  • Compilation and submission of monthly and annual performance reports to the Project Director.
  • Coordination of and participation in a Summer Bridge program for participants and college site visits.
  • Collaborate and communicate program information to possible participants, parents, School personnel, and College departments.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in relevant field required.
  • Familiarity with State of Ohio secondary school standards and curriculum.
  • Ability to develop relevant and appropriate curriculum and instruction to high school students.
  • Tutoring experience at the secondary level
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working in higher education, secondary education, or community-based programs.
  • Experience working with economically disadvantaged persons.
  • Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation to travel between Cincinnati State and Mt. Healthy Schools.
  • Availability to work weekends, evenings and/or travel overnight as needed.
  • Ability to pick up, carry, move materials weighing 25 pounds.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite of Office software (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.).

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Valid State of Ohio Secondary School Teacher certification.
  • Experience working with TRiO programs.
  • Experience and proficiency with Blumen or case management databases.
  • Program or project management expertise or training.
  • Experience with College enrollment resources
  • Knowledge of advance Math and Science curriculum
  • Familiarity with guidance/advising techniques.
