Tutor Mathematics, Statistics and Physics

Overview:

The Student Success Center is a resource for students who need additional assistance in developing in subject areas, but not limited to, Mathematics, Statistics and Physics. The tutor's role is one of coaching, not editing, as a strategy to engage the student in those skills necessary for success. In addition to enhancing the subject competency of students, the tutor plays a vital role in improving student retention, which can lead to higher completion rates.

Essential Duties:

  • Assist students in multiple subject areas with emphasis is on mathematics, Statistics, and Physics.
  • Is fully committed to the vision, mission, and values of Cincinnati State Technical and Community College
  • Incorporate effective study and learning strategies to maximize the student's potential for academic success
  • Demonstrate strong tutoring skills using appropriate tutoring strategies and techniques
  • Set example of professionalism both within the college and the community
  • Handle conflict effectively
  • Maintain ongoing communication with the Director of the Tutoring Center

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have a minimum of one year tutoring experience working with diverse populations in secondary or post-secondary institutions
  • Demonstrate an ability to establish rapport and communicate well with students, faculty, and staff
  • Experience with college online learning system Blackboard and e-mail communication, as well as good organization and communication skills

Reports to:                           Director, Success Center

Minimum Hourly rate:            $22/hour

Contractual Affiliation:           Non-bargaining

Exempt Classification:            Non-Exempt

Status:                                 Part time (Not to exceed 29 hours per week.)
