Lead Teacher William Mallory Early Learning Center

Overview:

Lead Teachers are "ambassadors" for the William Mallory Early Learning Center and are responsible for classroom management, supervision of the children, planning and implementing activities in their classroom, supervision of Teachers, Assistant Teachers and supporting the practicum experience of Early Childhood Education (ECE) students, all of which will be done in accordance with the standards of National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and the Ohio Step Up To Quality (SUTQ) guidelines.

Lead Teachers understand and adhere to all policies of the Center. Lead Teachers also understand, accept and promote the philosophies and standards set forth by NAEYC in the Code of Ethical Conduct.

Essential Duties:

  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate early childhood program and daily program activities which meet the individual needs of the children.
  • Modify planned activities to accommodate varying developmental levels of children while maintaining consistency in programming.
  • Ensure safety and supervision of children in all areas (indoors and outdoors) at all times.
  • Maintain necessary classroom records; use required assessments, maintain anecdotal notes/records and other observations on each child consistent with standards and credentialing requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with other professionals (therapists, supervisors, professors, consultants from community agencies) in support of the health and well-being of client families and their children.
  • Develop and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans within the Creative Curriculum, Gold objectives, and Ohio's Early Learning and Development Standards.
  • Document observed progress of children to support assessments of children.
  • Assess children utilizing prescribed tools, set developmentally appropriate goals for children and conduct parent conferences.
  • Provide orientation, guidance, feedback and evaluation to Assistant Teachers and ECE practicum students.
  • Attend and contribute to regularly scheduled staff meetings and actively collaborate with colleagues in the development of programming and services.
  • Punctuality and adherence to work schedule hours; timely notification of supervisor of tardiness and/or absences.
  • Professionally appropriate daily attire, suitable to working with small children.
  • Assist in the training and supervision of volunteers.
  • Monitor and contribute to the safety and cleanliness of the Center, and inform the Director immediately of any issues or behaviors that impact the Center's provision of quality service to its client families.
  • Assist the Director with other duties as needed; provide oversight and direction in the Director's absence, as directed.
  • Contribute self-evaluations of professional and classroom strengths and opportunities for improvement to serve as the basis of ongoing professional development.
  • Actively participate in professional organizations (NAEYC, CAEYC) and complete training required by SUTQ and NAEYC; keep informed of current trends, issues and standards of the early childhood education field.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Child Development Associate certificate or Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education AND on track to complete Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field within 9 months of hire.
  • Two years' experience in the Early Childhood Education field.
  • Required to complete 15 hours of in-service training per year.
  • Required to complete day care licensing training: CPR, first aid, communicable disease and child abuse recognition.
  • Meet Child Day Care Licensing staff person requirements.
  • Ability to accommodate a flexible schedule as Center and shift hours are subject to change to accommodate the business and operational needs of the Center and the College.
  • Must be able to bend, kneel, squat, lift up to 50 pounds, push, pull, sit on floor and small chairs, get up and down frequently, see and hear children as required by Child Day Care licensing regulations for child supervision.
  • Knowledge and skill in a variety of computer applications and software is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
