Part Time Instructor: Electrical & Mechanical Maintenance Technology (WDC)


Cincinnati State's Workforce Development Center (WDC) is the region's premier workforce training provider. Located at the Evendale campus, this division serves local businesses and individual students in developing industry-relevant skills for today's changing workplace. As a separate profit center, the WDC supports the college mission by offering custom, fast-paced programs that help people gain skills quickly and set them up for future professional and academic success.

Cincinnati State Technical and Community College, Workforce Development Center, is recruiting a part-time trainer to teach industrial electrical and mechanical maintenance technology. The individual for this position should be fully committed to the Mission and Values of Cincinnati State Technical and Community College.

Essential Duties:

  • Deliver learning-centered instruction by establishing a classroom environment conducive to learning and student involvement as well as effectively planning and preparing for classes and student success. 
  • Adequately prepare all course materials and lessons. Note preparation time will vary based on instructor experience in teaching that course 
  • Provide each student with clear course expectations, evaluations and timelines through carefully written topical outlines and approved, standardized syllabus 
  • Provide Interesting and relevant assignments for students that demonstrate learning outcomes in a real-life setting 
  • Suitably challenge, engage, serve and communicate with students to encourage their participation and learning while maintaining mutual value and respect 
  • Complete grade books, final grade sheets, learning assessments and final exam assessments on a timely basis 
  • Ensure course and program learning outcomes are delivered as defined by the syllabus. 
  • Maintain a paper or electronic record (i.e., spreadsheet or grade book) of each student's progress and has it available upon request by students and/or appropriate College personnel.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least 5 years' experience working in manufacturing as an electrical or mechanical maintenance techniciain, maintenance manager or field service engineer. 
  • At least 3 years industry or business experience in the teaching subject area. 
  • Knowledge and experience working with computer and working knowledge in Microsoft Office products.
  • Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance or a closely related degree from a regionally accredited educational institution.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three years' experience teaching Industrial Electrical Maintenance topics at a College, Career Center or other training institution. 
  • Extensive experience and in the installation and maintenance of industrial electrical systems 
  • Knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas: AC/DC circuitry, Motor Controls, Program Logic Controllers, Power Transmission 
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or a closely related degree from a regionally accredited educational institution.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse professional, community, and student population.
  • Self-disciplined and ability to multi-task, adapt to job or organizational changes.
  • Use critical thinking skills
  • Ability to identify problem(s) and solve them through a logical, collaborative process.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand and walk for up to 8 hours at a time
  • Ability to lift/move packages (up to 40 lbs.) on an intermittent basis
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders

Work Schedule:

  • Part-Time, as-needed (not to exceed 29 hours/week)

Comp. Range:        $18/hr technical work and $35/hr for instruction
