Cincinnati State Technical and Community College invites applications for a full-time Tenure-Track Emergency Medical Services (EMS) / Fire Service Technology (FST) Program Chair and Instructor Position beginning in the spring of 2018. Qualified candidates will be the Program Director for the EMS national and state(s) program accrediting bodies and need to be responsible for the organization, administration, continuous review, planning, development, and general effectiveness of the program(s). Responsibilities will include curriculum development, continuous review of program outcomes, student evaluation, academic advising, participation on college committees, accreditation development and maintenance, and program assessment.

Essential Duties:

Maintain all Necessary certifications to teach EMS courses.

Meet periodically with the other faculty in the program, including the cooperative education coordinator, regarding academic matters affecting the program, including but not limited to:

  • Maintain and update official course documents and maintain sample course syllabi and other course materials.
  • Coordinate (in collaboration with division APCC representative) activities needed to add, revise, or delete curriculum or course information from the catalog; serve as a resource for APCC when needed.
  • Review program admission criteria such as placement test scores and and/or other relevant criteria.
  • Review program cooperative education eligibility criteria and completion criteria.
  • Maintain list of adopted textbooks for program courses and coordinate processes for textbook adoption when necessary.
  • Coordinate activities related to external program accreditation and and/or internal program review or self-study, as applicable
  • Coordinate all activities with the medical director including convening regular meetings with the EMS team
  • Provide recommendations to the division dean and/ or associate deans(s) regarding course scheduling including: annual and semester (or mid- or mini-mester) course offerings, numbers of courses and sections each semester (or mid- or mini-mester), and assigned courses for full-time faculty in the applicable program.
  • Participate in selection of new program faculty, as defined in Article 7 of this Agreement.
  • Review resumes, interview, and recommend for hiring all new adjuncts and teaching assistants in consultation with other EMS faculty.
  • Provide recommendations to the division dean and/ or associate dean(s) regarding assigned courses for adjunct faculty.
  • Coordinate orienting new adjunct instructors in the program to course content and applicable course/program guidelines or standards.
  • Assist in the evaluation of adjunct instructors and teaching assistants in cases where recurring problems or deficiencies have been noted.
  • When applicable, participate in creation and implementation of articulation opportunities with bachelor degree programs, and and/or high school 2+ 2 programs.

Provide academic advising and registration assistance to enrolled program students.

  • Assist program students with activities related to transfer of credits, advanced standing, and course test-out, as applicable.
  • Review and recommend candidates for graduation from the program.
  • Assist program students with activities related to the status of academic warning, probation, or suspension.
  • Serve as first point of contact for student concerns/ complaints related to adjunct instructors in the program.

Provide community outreach activities.

  • Convene meeting twice / year of the Program Advisory Committee and solicit membership for the Advisory Committee, as needed.
  • Assist with student recruitment through participation in College recruiting events and outreach to high school and Fire/EMS partners.
  • Participate in outreach to business/industry/educational partners and stakeholders associated with the program, including the Workforce Development Center.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required from an accredited college or university
  • State of Ohio Certified Paramedic, out of state paramedic with a National Registry-Paramedic certification, Registered Nurse, or must obtain Ohio Paramedic by date of hire,
  • State of Ohio Certified EMS Instructor or must obtain by date of hire
  • American Heart Association. Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Instructor Certification or must obtain by date of hire
  • 3+ years of industry experience as a paramedic or registered nurse with field experience on a critical care transport unit (ground or air).
  • Previous teaching experience at a paramedic level

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university
  • 10+ years of industry experience as a paramedic
  • Experience working with state and national accrediting bodies
  • Experience in a leadership position in academic or industry setting
  • Experience in a leadership position for multiple locations

  • Ability to build relationships with the Emergency Medical Services and Fire Service Technology Community
  • Sensitivity to students with diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds and students with disabilities.
