Overview: Bakery Hill Shift Supervisor Part-time  

The Midwest Culinary Institute (MCI) located on the Clifton Campus of Cincinnati State Technical & Community College services employees and students for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We are looking for a part-time Bakery Hill Shift Supervisor. This position requires an individual to coordinate daily production lists with assistant bakers. In addition you will be responsible for delegating duties and authority to assistant bakers as well as training employees to become more experience in their positions. This position requires working up to 29 hours per week between the hours of 4:00 am and 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

Essential Duties:

  • Take charge and be accountable for aspects of the front end and back of house.
  • Recognize issues, problems, or concerns with-in Bakery Hill that need attention and consult with management to correct them
  • Monitor talking, texting, sitting, standing with-out working of employees and motivate them to become more efficient.    
  • Train and develop assistant clerks to complete tasks assigned by management, and insure that all daily tasks are completed off of the daily Opening and Closing procedures check list
  • Works collaboratively with bakery manager and Bakery Hill staff to oversee the integrity of cash handling procedures, credit card transactions and ensures that fiscal controls are followed as established by the Cincinnati State office of Accounting and Finance.
  • Train staff to answer phone calls in a professional manner and record messages
  • Insure that beverages and baked goods from Bakery Hill are fresh every day providing a high quality product that represents the MCI standard of excellence
  • Train staff to keep track of shrink by entering into established spread sheets
  • Assist catering, restaurant, and faculty chefs with any baked items from Bakery Hill
  • Work with management to ice, decorate, design, create celebration cakes, and other Bakery Hill items
  • Follow daily production lists and directions from MCI Sous Chef in a timely manner
  • Ensure compliance with city health inspections and the American Culinary Federations (ACF) accreditation site visits by providing routine inspections with staff to ensure the highest standards of cleanliness, organization and sanitation are maintained.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Certification through the American Culinary Federation (ACF)
  • Ability to pick up, carry and move materials weighing up to 25 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of at least 1 year in retail bakery or other similar environment. 
  • Graduate of the Midwest Culinary Institute (MCI) Pastry program

  • Flexibility to work scheduled hours as needed based upon business necessity.

Benefits:

This part-time position is eligible for the State Employee Retirement System (SERS) for which the employee's 10% contribution is matched by the College at 14% of earnings, or as otherwise statutorily required. This position will also be provided free on-campus parking.
