Instructor, Medical Assistant Certificate Program 


Cincinnati State Technical and Community College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Instructor for the Medical Assistant Certificate Program to be offered at Multiple Locations. Qualified candidates will be responsible for the organization, administration, continuous review, planning, development, growth and general effectiveness of the program.

This position also has responsibilities in classroom and laboratory instruction, curriculum development, continuous review of program outcomes, student evaluation, academic advising, assisting with externship coordination and placement, participation on college committees, accreditation development and maintenance, and program assessment.

We are looking for someone that is a Visionary with student and program focus, detailed oriented with excellent data management. As the instructor for the Medical Assistant Program you will be responsible for increasing the improvement of retention and graduation rates.   The individual for this position should support the Mission and Values of Cincinnati State.

 Essential Duties: 

    • Assist in assigning and managing staffing for program curriculum.
    • Maintain and update curriculum changes
    • Provide each student with a syllabus that outlines clear course expectations, evaluations, topical outlines and timelines.
    • Assist in achieving course objectives and provide formative and summative feedback related to the student's progress in a timely manner.
    • Promote student success in their courses and program through academic advising and referral to College resources (tutoring, etc.).
    • Provide academic advice to students, including information regarding the curriculum, scheduling, assisting with externship coordination and placement, and career opportunities.
    • Address student issues in a timely manner, including communicating issues through the appropriate chain of command as identified in the faculty handbook.
    • Demonstrate sensitivity to students with diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds and students with disabilities.
    • Maintain current certification as a Medical Assistant and remain current in the Medical Assistant field as related to teaching and professional responsibilities.
    • Participate in professional development activities and college service days as required for certification and the AAUP contract.
    • Complete Annual Report Form (ARF).
    • Participate in peer mentoring program and demonstrate continuous progress toward completing on a timely basis all required activities and documentation required for tenure.
    • Make continuous efforts to improve the quality of instruction by participating in professional development activities, utilizing feedback from the peer mentor, and employing innovative teaching methodologies, techniques, and delivery method.
    • Actively participate in College and Divisional activities, meetings, and committees.
    • Attend and participate on Medical Assistant Certificate Advisory Committee (MACAC) Meetings.
    • Develop course materials for use in assigned courses and share with course faculty and program chair.
    • Plan, develop, and use a variety of teaching methods and materials that assist students in meeting course objectives and which are appropriate for students with differing educational and experiential backgrounds and learning styles.
    • Maintain document retention and record-keeping including the documentation of the assessment of student learning outcomes.
    • Keep accurate student records and submit related reports and forms within requested timelines.
    • Review, evaluate, and recommend student textbooks and learning materials.
    • Teach courses at a variety of times and locations in response to institutional needs.






 Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a healthcare or closely related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of healthcare experience as a Medical Assistant or Registered Nurse or a closely related health profession, including a minimum of 160 hours in an ambulatory healthcare setting performing or observing administrative and clinical procedures as performed by medical assistants.
  • Must be credentialed and hold current license or certification in Medical Assisting by a credentialing organization accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) or the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) including one of the following: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Clinical Certified Medical Assistant (CCMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
  • Must have a minimum of (1) one year teaching experience in post-secondary or vocational/technical education.
  • Must have knowledge and experience in educational theory and techniques.
  • Must meet standard physical requirements of a medical assistant in both administrative and clinical duties.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in healthcare or closely related field, minimum of 3 years of healthcare experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • Previous teaching experience in a Medical Assistant program.
  • Medical Assistant Education Review Board (MAERB) accreditation experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in educational theory and techniques.

    • Demonstrated skill in teaching, using applied academic methods, including active and collaborative learning.
