Annually Contracted Instructor Accounting


Cincinnati State Technical and Community College invites applications for an Annually Contracted Instructor for a one year appointment. Annually Contracted Instructors (ACI) is full-time, non-tenure-track faculty members whose sole responsibility is to provide classroom instruction of credit-bearing courses. ACI duties shall not include responsibilities as program chair, department chair, cooperative education coordinator, advisor, or any other faculty responsibilities.

Qualified candidates will need to teach college-level courses to our technical, transfer degree and non-degree seeking students in our Business Division in the area of Accounting. Instruction may take place in a classroom or via distance or online learning web portals.  

As part of our team of highly qualified faculty, Accounting Instructors are expected to provide high quality instruction and work with the Associate Deans, Dean and other Administrative staff and faculty to improve student learning experiences. Instructors may be assigned other instructional responsibilities as determined by the Dean or Associate Dean.

Essential Duties:

  • Deliver learning-centered instruction by establishing a classroom environment conducive to learning and student involvement as well as effectively planning and preparing for classes and student success.
  • Develop and use of a departmental approved syllabus for each course or laboratory within college, discipline, and departmental guidelines and submit one copy to the program chair.
  • Teach assigned introductory and upper-level Accounting courses following established course descriptions, course objectives, and syllabi. 
  • Evaluate students to measure their progress toward achievement of stated course objectives and inform them of their progress in the course in a timely manner.
  • Address student issues in a timely manner, including communicating issues to program chair.
  • Make continuous efforts to improve the quality of instruction by utilizing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods.
  • Plan, develop, and use a variety of teaching methods and materials that assist students in meeting course objectives and which are appropriate for students with differing educational and experiential backgrounds and learning styles.
  • Keep accurate student records and submit related reports and forms within requested timelines.
  • Teach courses at a variety of times and locations in response to institutional needs.
  • Use equipment and facilities responsibly and courteously.

Additional Requirements:

The per semester duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Creating course syllabi and providing copies to the program chair.
  • Preparing content for instruction including developing lectures, designing classroom activities and assessments, maintaining a Blackboard course site and requesting training and help in areas when needed.
  • Instruction in the classroom, covering all of the objectives at the appropriate college level while maintaining a good working classroom environment that fosters learning.
  • Posting student grades throughout the semester on the Blackboard course site.
  • Responding promptly to requests for student progress reports sent from Student Support Services, advisors, the Director of Retention, etc.
  • Meeting students by appointment when requested and responding promptly to emails.
  • Maintain ten (10) office hours per week and keep your Outlook and Starfish calendar up-to date.
  • Making recommendations about student issues as they pertain to your course.
  • Taking notes about a situation that may have arisen in your class for documentation to the program chair or administration.
  • Submitting final grades to the Registrar through Blackboard's MyServices by the required deadline.
  • Completing a grade audit regarding a student that you have had. This can be requested up to one year after the course, so keep electronic Excel spreadsheets of your grades archived for at least one year.
  • Providing a sample test to the program chair each semester.
  • Attend program, departmental, and divisional meetings.
  • Travel back and forth to your course regardless of campus location

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business with a major/concentration in Accounting or both a Bachelor's degree and an Associate's degree/certificate in accounting or a Master's degree in Accounting or Business or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • At least three years industry experience in the accounting field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Accounting certification/license, such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), Enrolled Agent, etc.
  • Have experience using diverse methods of classroom technology and innovative instructional/academic support systems and programs.
  • On-line distance education instruction experience preferably using Blackboard.
  • Some night or weekend hours may be required.

  • Possess the ability to work in a diverse work environment.
  • Willing and able to teach day or evening classes at a number of sites around the city.
  • Knowledge and skill in a variety of computer usage and software are required.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively as a team member with a diverse professional, community, and student population.
  • Possess good organizational and planning skills including oral and written communication.
  • Possess ability to interact successfully with academic as well as business and regulatory personnel.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to students with diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds and students with disabilities.
  • Demonstrate ability to inspire and motivate students in a learning-centered environment with commitment to student excellence and continued improvement of instruction.
  • Demonstrate competence and interest in the use of technology in the classroom and willingness to explore new instructional methodologies.
  • Must be self-disciplined and effectively manage others.
  • Knowledge and skill in a variety of computer usage and software are required.
